On Saturday, 28th September, Muoviamo’s mobile plastic laboratory transformed into a vibrant space of creativity and environmental action in collaboration with the Finnish Happiness Academy, as part of the UNESCO 2024 Youth Innovation Contest.

Hands-on learning focused on environmental challenges

Sixteen children, joined by their parents, participated in a hands-on workshop focused on the environmental challenges faced by our oceans. The event encouraged participants to reflect on how pollution and shifts in environmental conditions are affecting marine ecosystems, and what we can do to protect marine biodiversity for future generations.

Exploring the state of our oceans through art

During the workshop, the participants explored ideas about the state of our oceans, discussing how pollution and changing environmental factors are impacting marine life, and what actions can help preserve ocean health. The children then worked with recycled plastic to create meaningful artworks that symbolized the importance of protecting the oceans. This hands-on activity emphasized how everyday plastic waste can be repurposed, promoting creativity while fostering environmental awareness.

Collaboration with Finnish Happiness Academy

The collaboration with the Finnish Happiness Academy, whose mission is to help global youth find purpose through engaging activities, enhanced the workshop’s impact. By utilizing the expertise of their specialists and Finland’s well-being insights, the Academy fosters transformative experiences that encourage youth to thrive and explore sustainability in meaningful ways. This mission aligned perfectly with the event’s goals.

The power of creativity and sustainability

As part of UNESCO’s broader initiative to encourage youth innovation, the workshop highlighted the power of creativity and sustainability. At Muoviamo, we are committed to teaching future generations about the value of reducing waste and how discarded materials can be given new life through art.

Inspiring change and action for a sustainable future

Through workshops like this, we aim to inspire both children and adults to rethink waste and embrace the possibilities of reuse. The children’s enthusiasm was evident as they displayed their creations, each representing a reflection on how we can all contribute to a healthier planet.
